Junior
League Semi-Finals
Lynx :26 Starzz: 15
The Lynx withstood a strong Starzz
comeback to pull away with a 26-15 March Madness semi-final victory. The fast
breaking Lynx jumped out to an early lead engineered by the speedy backcourt
duo of Amanda Brown ( x points) and Ally Kelly (x
points). Both guards kept the pressure on throughout the game with their quick,
slashing drives to the basket. They were helped by quick ball movement from the
entire Lynx team initiated from strong rebounding by Toni Joy, Ashley Figucia and Kayla Berube (x
points). The crowd was treated to some nifty behind the back, between the legs
passing of Emily “Magic” Veloso
who led the team in assists. Shannon Smith (x points) was once again a steady
force on the back line blocking numerous shots, pulling down multiple rebounds
and providing and intimidating presence down low. The defensive pressure
applied by the Lynx team was lead by Delaney Chisolm
and Andrea Morin who were named co-defensive players of the game. Both players
chipped in with multiple steals and rebounds to round out a strong team
effort. Congratulations to a tough, well coached Starzz
team who battled all game and should be proud of their excellent season!
The Starzz and Lynx finished
the regular season splitting regular season match
ups and the Lynx finishing just a half game ahead of the Starzz
in the standings
so this semi final promised to be a great game. The young ladies did not
disappoint as this game was much closer than the score would indicate. The
Starzz were within two point of the Lynx heading in
to the final quarter of play
but ran out of gas in the final frame. Scoring for the Starzz
were All-star
selections Loren Sullivan 5 points, Erin Henry 2 points, Eva Barinelli 1 point,
Starzz roo! kie of the year Molly Robertson 1 point and playing her
best game of
the year leading the scoring Kenzie Wyatt with 6
points.. Also playing well for
the Starzz with tough defense were Amanda Aylward, Steffanie Deluca Gifford
and
Emily Duquette who was selected defensive player of
the game. Congratulations on
a great season Starzz!
Monarchs beat Mercury
The Mercury team fought and battled all year right up
until the last second of the game vs a very tough
aggressive Monarch team. Brittney Fletcher saved her best for last and played
an outstanding game putting in the games first basket. Lindsay Cossar and Lauren Strong provided scoring also for the
Mercury team and both hustled all over the court the entire game. Sandra
Fleming and Karalyn Gallella
both had outstanding years. Lisa Petrowski was
finally contained by a tough defense, but still managed to block 8 shots and
grab several rebounds. Marina Russo, Nicki Santora and Ashley Collarusso all
had many steals and dove all over the court. Hilary Fletcher had 9
rebounds and played well all year. The Mercury team had a great year and
improved the entire year. One of the father’s was quoted after the game, “ I will miss joining in on the practices and running
sprints with them, I even cancelled my Curves membership” said a
distraught Richie Collarusso.

performance on the boards. Jen Iannacci (3 pts)
also dominated on the boards and played tough defense inside. Anna
Piccolo (2 pts) and Abby Donoghue
both showed a lot of hustle on both ends of the floor. The Tar Heels
defense was amazing holding the high powered Eagles to a season low 20
points. Julia Bodoni, Josie Saiz,
Rachel Pendleton, Gabi Mecherkany and Michaela Swift
all did an incredible job. Megan Sheppard unfortunately missed the game
due to illness but she was a key contributor all season long.
Congratulations to the Tar Heels - a very fun and talented team. Be proud
of your season! Best of luck to both the Wolverines and
Eagles in the Championship game.
Crusaders 23 vs. Wolverines 19
The Lady Wolverines were ready for the semi-final round
of the TGBL March Madness Tournament. They knew that the Crusaders were going
to be a force to deal with in the semi-final round. The first three periods
were close with both teams trading baskets and the
lead. In the fourth quarter the Wolverines decided that if they were
going forward to the championship game they had to reach down and find the
strength to move their game up one notch to secure the victory. Through the
combined effort of everyone on the team the Wolverines were able to surge past
the tough Crusaders and secure spot in the finals. Congratulations to the
Crusaders' players and Coach John Sears on playing a great game. Defensive player for the Wolverines for
the semi-finals was Chelsee Porcaro.
The Crusaders put up a hard fought battle against the
Wolverines. At one point the Crusaders got out to a 13 to 6 lead but the
Wolverines closed out the 3rd quarter with a 15 - 15 tie. The fourth
quarter was owned by the Wolverines as they outscored the Crusaders 8 - 4 to
win 23 - 19. Meghan Sears led the Crusaders with 7 points. Other scorers
included Kim Tecce, Shannon McLaughlin, Jillian Phaneauf and Lindsay Andella.
Great job Crusaders. You gave your all throughout the entire season.
Thanks.

Junior
League Finals
Lynx 25 vs.
Monarchs 15
Nice game.
Shannon Smith (7 points) followed with 5 seconds remaining with another
offensive rebound and put-back to seal the victory. The Lynx were stymied all
game trying to beat legendary coach Eric Braciskas’
“SpongeBob” defense. The guard trio of Amanda Brown (7 points), Ally
Kelly (6 points) and Emily “Magic” Veloso were
pressured and double-teamed all game but hung tough against the “Squidward” press. Guards Ally Kelly and Emily Veloso did a nice job finding their “Twin Towers” forwards,
Kayla Berube (6 points) and Shannon Smith down low.
Amanda Brown was again “money” at the foul line hitting some key fouls
shots and facing some tough defensive pressure. The “Twin Towers” duo of Kayla Berube and Shannon Smith were immense in the final quarter
controlling both the offense and defensive boards. Their hard work paid off
with the some down low hoops to pull the Lynx back from a large defecit. The Lynx never let the game get out of hand thanks
to the strong all around play of teammates Andrea Dorin,
Ashley Figucia and Delany Chisolm.
Great work by the entire Lynx team never giving up and working hard down to the
final seconds of the job. Congratulations to an excellent Monarchs team
on their great season and for their hustle and effort in an exciting
Championship game. Thanks to all of the Lynx parents for the strong support all
year! Congratulations Lynx girls!!

Great defense was played by Krista Mignon and Mariah Culwell
and Kaitlyn Fitzgerald grabbed multiple
rebounds. The Eagles had a great year and congratulate the Wolverines on
their win. Thank you for a fantastic, nail biting, down to the last
minute game
The Wolverines came into this game as the underdog.
Many did not expect the Wolverines to have a chance against the league leading
undefeated powerhouse team, the Eagles. The game
turned out to be a TGBL classic. The teams traded the lead numerous times
during the first three quarters. The fourth quarter ignited the Eagles who
quickly ran up a ten point lead with about 4 minutes to play. When the fourth
quarter horn sounded the score ended up tied 30 to 30. In the overtime period
the Wolverines took control of the game. Led by the scoring of
Stephanie Champoux, the ball handling of Shanell Nardone and Shana Chartienitz, the inside work of Chelsee
Porcaro under the hoop and the hard work of all the
other players on the floor, all contributed to a 38 to 31 victory for the
Wolverines. Stephanie Champoux was named defensive player of the game. Congratulations
to the Eagles' players and to Coach Rich Pachucki
for a great season.
To my team the Wolverines, this is a great championship
win for all of us.Thank-you for all your hard work at
practice all season long. Thanks for listening to me during the games, espically the championship game! You are a special group -
I'll miss you all - thanks for a great year. Coach Joe Salvucci

This final championship game started out real slow for
the Sonics and by the half the Blazers were dominating with a commanding 14
point lead. The Sonics came out though
with a lot of heart in the second half and actually closed it to within 5
points with 3 minutes left, but could not keep the engine going. The scoring was once again shared by six
Sonics with Lauren Teixeira leading the way with 8 points, Liz Carie and Krista Petrone with 6
each, Jen Bowers at 5, and Renee Conlin and Lauren
Spencer with 4 apiece. The defense was led by Alyssa Guida,

It was a tough loss, but not without a great a comeback.
