INTERMEDIATE LEAGUE

TERRIERS 28 WILDCATS 13

The Wildcats came roaring out to a 7 to 2 lead early in the first quarter and the Terriers had their work cut out for them.  The strong offensive power of center Shannon Smith who scored 12 points with the great help from point guard Amanda Brown with 10 points fueled the fight back in the second quarter.  The rest of the Terriers scoring was rounded out by 2 points each from Meredith Cahill, Erin Walsh, and Marissa Conlin. The Terriers played a tough D allowing the Wildcats only 13 points.  The defense was lead by Melanie Fleury and Meagan Timmins who both caused havoc in the paint.  Ashley Colarusso and Michelle Creedon also played incredible defense causing numerous turnovers.  Another great Terriers game!

The Wildcat girls played a great game against some real tough competitors.  The second quarter was rough and they could not recover the lost points but definitely gave it a nice try.  Ally Kelly was our high scored with 5 points, Lindsey Cossar right behind with 4, and both Erika Dirk and Colleen Kelly with another 2.  Corinne Doyle and Audrey Casey did a great job on defense.  Heather Doyle was all over the ball and made a few stops.  Janina Kennedy and Jessica Guida did a fine job under the boards with several rebounds.  Katie Dunlevy had quick hands resulting in several steals. 

 

JAYHAWKS 40 COUGARS 9

The Cougars came up short against a very good Jayhawks team that played well.  Amanda Lane led the Cougars in scoring with 4 points.  Molly Harrington (3) and Jessica Lehmann (2) rounded out the scoring and showed great hustle all game.  Delaney Chisholm, Chelsea Grant, and Sarah Baptista each had outstanding games working hard at both ends of the court.  Samantha Teague was a defensive standout in this game.  The Cougars are looking forward to getting their full squad back on the court next week.

Scoring for the Jayhawks were Meghan Braciska and Lauren Sullivan with 10 points, Nicole Petherbridge with 8 points, Haley Pozzutto, June Garcia and Sam Powers with 4 points each, and Cassie Froio with 2 pts.

 

Cardinals  27 vs. Falcons 11

The Cardinals put together a strong effort against a tough defensive squad (Falcons) to come away with a victory. This was truly a team effort with no player scoring more than 4 points for the Cardinals. The first quarter was the difference as the Cardinals proved very patient and slowly built a 6 point lead by capitalizing on the scoring chances provided to them. The rest of the game the lead slowly increased until the final tally. The Falcons played good defense to keep the game close into the fourth quarter. Defensive standouts were Toni Joy with 6 steals and Taylor Donahoe with 9 rebounds. Samantha Lopolito also played strong defense pulling down 4 rebounds. Overall the offense was great at distributing the ball to the open girl and the defense denied the Falcons second chances. Kayla Berube playing guard for the first time continued to disrupt the Falcons offense in the fourth quarter. Scoring for the Cardinals were Toni Joy, Arianna Calouro, Eva Barinelli, Emily Velozo, and Caitlin Carroll with 4 points, Taylor Donahoe with 3 points, and Nicole Doucette and Kayla Berube with 2 points. Eva and Ari also had 2 assists each. Great job Cardinals! 

Scoring for the Falcons were Hillary Fletcher (4 pts), Brittney Fletcher (3 pts.),  Lauren Strong (2 pts.) and Abigail Wise (2 pts.).

HUSKIES 23  WAVES 17

The Huskies went for two in a row versus a tough Waves squad with an intensive coaching staff.  Coaches Slavin and Dick were going for a record 890th win . The sold out house saw a great close game. The Waves pulled out early and would have been a lot more if not for the great defense by Chloe Politis and Stephanie McHatton.  The offensive rebounding by the Waves was slowed down by Dimple Gandhi.  In the Second quarter the Huskies closed the gap with the tandem of Karalyn Gallela and Alyssa Defruscia who both had 8 points. Jamie Fowler was all over the court along with Kenzi Wyatt and Samantha who hit a big jump shot to seal it in the 4th quarter. Marina Russo had 6 assists and played a solid game defensively.  The game ended up close and was played well on both ends of the court.  Defensive player of the game was Chloe Politis

Mariah Wentzell, (9 pts.) Kirsten Dick, Carlye Slavin, Alexis Chaet, and Melissa Markwarth, led the Waves offense.  Catherine Ozek, Tayla Legrande, Shalimar Hulme, Jacqueline Noftle and Christina Noyes anchored the team defensively.  The team played well against a tough Huskies squad.  Defensive player of the game was Tayla Legrande.

SENIOR LEAGUE   

Raptors 30  Wizards 24

The Raptors and Wizards played a very physical game.  Ultimately the Raptors won.  The Raptors were able to win with their hard work, dedication and the love of the game.  Fast breaks and take aways were the plays of the game.  Good hustle by all.  Great defense by:  Ashley Puzotto, Kaitlin Fitzgerald, Caitlin Ludka and Rachel Eatherton.  Scoring for the Raptors were Stephanie Champoux, 10pts, Emily Knoops, 5pts, Nicole Chaet, 9 pts Meredith Bonugli, 5pts and Catie Loiselle, 1 point.  Defensive Player of the game:  The ENTIRE Raptors Team!

The Wizards fell to a strong Raptors team 30-24.  The game started well for the Wizards as they jumped out to a 10 point lead at the half, but in the second half they had no answers for the Raptors' stifling defense.  On offense the tandem of Sam Laferriere (8 pts) and Jen Iannacci (5 pts) continued to click.  Abby Donoghue connected for 5 points and Missy Cordwell (4 pts) and Sarah Barnes (2 pts) rounded out the scoring.  Hannah Culwell, Mariah Culwell, Julia Bodoni, Jen Cobuccio and Jen Maddaleni all played very well on the defensive end.  Jen "Garnett" Joyce was unable to play but was leading the cheers for the team on the bench.  Congratulations to the Raptors for a hard fought victory.

 

Pacers 24 Sonics 17

The Sonics suffered their first loss of the season to the Pacers with a final score of 24 to 17 although the Sonics played well the ball just would not drop for them. Krista Mignon returned after a month long absence to provide the Sonics with great defense. Marisa Harrington (4 pts) found her outside shot to keep the score tie at the half. Shanna Chartientz (1 pts) and Melissa Peters (4pts) as always controlled both sides of the court. Christine Kang (4 pts) and Brittney Pachucki (4 pts) were players of the game due to their contribution of consistent play during three quarters on the court. Jillian Phaneuf played a very solid game and was able to control the boards on both sides of the court. Erin Morrissey is fitting in well as a guard by controlling the top of the key and getting the ball to the right player under the basket. Tessa Wyatt was able to come up with several key rebounds in the first half to stop the Pacers from pulling ahead.

JAZZ 37 MAGIC 35

In a very evenly played game, the Jazz came out on top 37 to 35 over the Magic.

Leading the way for the Jazz was Arianna Medeiros with 14pts and endless hustle. Defensively, the Jazz welcomed back Rachel Ragucci, who teamed with Samantha Campbell, to grab numerous rebounds. The first unit was lead by Aly Spenser, who poured in 6pts, and Haley Callahan who ran the point. Also playing tough defense were Abby Meuse and Haley Feingold. Rounding out the scoring were Sara Semenza(8pts), Jen Salvucci(2pts) and Shannon Semenza(4pts).

Scoring for the Magic were Shanell Nardone ( 10 pts) Meaghan Blaisdell,(6pts), Olivia Gallella (6pts) Kelly Quigley (6 pts), Nicole Hamel (5pts) and Molly Tibbetts(2pts).

 

  BLAZERS 13   SPURS 11

The Blazers came from behind to beat a determined Spurs team.  The scoring from the Blazers was led by Brooke Patterson, Ashley Kelly, and Mikayla Hodgdon with 4 points each.  Samantha Madore shot well also.  Ally Braciska added a point, but more importantly played great defensively, as did Bridget Casey and Taylor SimasA tough win by the Blazers.

 

The SPURS took the lead early in the game but ended up short 13-11 due in part to the hard press of the Blazers. Although the Spurs had some great opportunities and put up the shots they just wouldn't drop this day. The team did show a lot of spirit with a press by Haley Golini, Kelsey Bradley, Meaghan McGlaughlin and Devin Kelly. Rachel Pendleton, Shannon McGlaughlin, Leanne Lozowski, Jamie Cohen and Erin Elliott were tough on defense and the offensive boards. Scoring for the Spurs were Rachel Pendleton (4pts), Meaghan McGlaughlin (3pts) Shannon McGlaughlin (2pts.) and Haley Golini (2pts.)

 

JUNIOR LEAGUE

STORM 13 LYNX 10

Great team defense was the key to victory for the Storm. Madison Wescott led the way with 10 points, Kendyl Spinelli hit a key shot down the stretch and Nicole Lucia’s free throw sealed the victory.  The defensive player of the game was Jessica Cacciola. Irene Houde, Shaele Esteveo, Sarah Yoken, Bailey Carter, Stefani Cunningham and Stephanie Graffeo all contributed with great passing and defense.

Another tightly contested tilt for the Lynx this week, where the Storm prevailed 13-10. In a defensive battle the Storm led for all of the game, but could never really pull away. It was a nail biter throughout. Scoring for the Lynx were Rebecca Lewis, Kylie Paulino, Amanda Mckinnis, Miranda Hulme, and Carolyn Verseckas all with 2pts each. Defensive players of the game were Miranda Hulme, Katie Garcia, and Emily Woods.

 

STARZZ 16   MONARCHS 4

The Starzz shook off some Thanksgiving rust and played their second strong defensive game of the season against a talented Liberty team.   The defensive effort was led by Samantha Surowiec, Jordyn Cavicchi

and Kate McGlaughlin, who was named defensive player of the game. The offense was once again led by Samantha Mercurio who scored 8 points.   Also playing great defense and scoring for Starzz were

Rachel Sessa with 4 points and Holly Covel (2 points) and Haley Marchant (2 points)

 

Scoring for the Monarchs were Kayla VonKahle and Chelsey Pellegrino with 2 points each.

 

 

COMETS 20 MERCURY 8

 The Comets posted their first win of the season against the Mercury, 20 to 8.  It was a compete team effort all around!  Michelle Tenaglia and Emily Langone netted 8 points each for the team and were just as aggressive on defense.  Carla Tenaglia and Allison Couillard(2) showed great defensive skill with many turnovers throughout the game.  Caitlin Panasitti and Michaela Svendsen(2) made some great passes and worked the boards for rebounds.  Olivia Powers was also hard at work under the net and had many steals from the Mercury.  Emily Milne and Julia Noone gave their all on defense with some great hustle that contributed to the Comets victory!

Defensive Player of the Game was Michelle Tenaglia.

 

The Mercury lost to the Comets in a close battle.  Emily Walker shot really well scoring all eight points for the Mercury.  Alexis Brincklow and Lauren Riccardi grabbed many rebounds during the contest.  Felicia Ragucci, Danielle Carrig and Kiley Barrett all played great defense.  Julie Ozek, Syndey Papendrea and Ashley Turri all showed great hustle in the game.  The Mercury girls put in great effort and never gave up.

 

 

 

 

 ROCKERS 11 MYSTICS 5

Rockers came out with fire.  Their defense was unbelievable!  Sara Letourneau was our high scorer with 6 points despite her injured finger, Julia Kelly scored 2, Sara Bishop with her first 2 points (nice!!) and Erica Wynot added one more.

The guards were super quick on their feet resulting in a few steals and break aways- Amy Glover, Tatum Pecci, Nicole Cobuccio and Julia Kelly awesome job. 

Lizzie Markwarth and Sara Letourneau did a super job getting open and putting the ball in the middle. Sara Bishop, Jackie Marchant, and Hannah Maffeo stepped up their defense under the boards blocking some shots and getting rebounds.  Erica Wynot great rebounds and a few steals as well.  Fantastic job Rockers!

LIBERTY 13 SPARKS 11

The Liberty clinched their 2nd win of the season, but not without a fight from the Sparks.  The Libery gained a good lead but the Sparks fought back in the 3rd quarter making the 4th quarter a nail biter. Great defense played by Sara Catanzano kept the Sparks doffense from scoring.  Also contributing on defense was Jocelyn Stavros, Paige McGaffigan, Victoria Mirabito and Cassia Burns.  Scoring for the Liberty were Lily Wyatt (4 pts.), Sara Catanzano (3 pts.) Paige McGaffigan (2 pts.) Shannon Vasas (2 pts.) and Jocelyn Stavros (2 pts.).  Lisa DeVito and Gina Puccia each assisted in trying to shutdown the Sparks, while Mirabito tried to set a pick for Catanzano to penetrate a tough defense. Stavros, McGaffigan and Puccia did a great job meeting the Sparks at half court making a solid line of defense.  Liberty scored in the 4th quarter when Vasas sunk a basket putting Liberty in the lead followed by a foul shot for Catanzano to bring the score to 13-11.  Great effort Liberty!!

Scoring for the Sparks were Emily Zuraski and Fracesco Cocca with 4 points each, Sarah Sullivan with 2, and Adrianna Favreau with 1.
