Raptors

The SPURS played an
another hard fought game against a very talented Raptors squad. Although
down in the first quarter an aggressive press led by Haley Golini,
Shannon McLaughlin, Kelsey Bradley, Erin Elliott and Leanne Lozowski
produced many turnovers, tied the game at the half and then rallied again
in the the fourth quarter. Jamie Cohen, Danielle

scored 6 points and Danielle Carrig chipped in with 2
points. Lauren Riccardi, Felicia Ragucci and Tegan Trant played solid defense throughout the game. Ashley

Monarchs were not going to make it easy for the Mercury. They already put up 13
points by the 4th quarter. With 16 seconds to go in regulation the
Mercury were down by two points. Alexis Brincklow
made two huge free throws to send the game into OT. Both teams played
great in overtime. With about 40 seconds left Emily Walker sealed the
game with a breakaway layup. The Mercury girls were extremely happy with
their first win of the season.
The
Monarchs played their most exciting game yet when they faced off against the
Mercury in a contest which could not be settled in regulation. The
Monarchs jumped out to a solid lead in the first half due to some great passing
by Emily Amaral and Sarah Ciampa
and scoring from inside the paint by Kayla VonKahle
who had seven points on the day. Sarah Murray scored 4 points from the
perimeter assisted by fellow guard Shaylee Puleo. Tayla Spezzano
scored 2 points of her own after scrapping for a rebound. Sidney Quinn
was a defensive standout and pulled down key rebounds at both ends of the court
to keep the Monarchs in the game.

Fantastic
game against the Storm. Erica Wynott
with a huge 6 points and countless rebounds. Amy glover also added a bucket and several steals. Julia
Kelly played outstanding defense and also scored 2. Lizzie
Markwarth with some great passes under the hoop. Hannah Maffeo and Sara Constantino are
stepping up thier games and shaking off the defense.
Sara Bishop and Jackie Marchant did a super job
moving around in the lane and great hands up defense. Tatum Pecci and Nicole Cobuccio have
their crazy lags on defense, challenging the ball at every step. Awesome
job Rockers!
The
Storm lost a tough game to a tough Rockers team. Great rebounding from
Nicole Lucia, Stefani Cunningham, Sarah Yoken, and
Bailey Carter. Tough defense by
Stephanie Graffeo, Jessica Cacciola,
Shaele Esteveo and Kendyl Spinelli kept the game
close for the Storm. Scoring for the
Storm were Madkson Wescott
and Sydney Burlmachi with 2 points each. Defensive player of the game was Irene Houde.
Sparks 16
Mystics 10
Today
we played a really tough Sparks team and they beat us. We showed great
determination and toughness all game. Alyssa Mercurio
got tossed around like a rag doll but she refused to let go of the ball
and got right back into it playing shutdown defense. Sam Nugent, Sam Alman and Victoria Horton seem to have a fire building in
their bellies. Michelle Maciel is like a magnet for
rebounds showing great strength. Sam LaLonde was
on top of her game and Maggie Penta played
unbelievable. We also got great leadership from our veterans Natalie Veloz, Miah Cummings and of
course Marissa Doherty. We are very lucky to have such good kids on this team.
Bring on the next Game!!!
Scoring
for the Sparks were Sarah Sullivan and Adrianna Favreau
with 6 points each, Rebekah Politis with 2 points and
Francesca Cocca and Caitlin Lane with 1 point each.
Liberty 15 Comets 2
The Liberty played against the Comets and won 15 to 2. Scoring for the
Liberty were Sara Catanzano 8 pts, Victoria Mirabito 4 pts, Shannon Vasas
2pts and Paige McGaffigan 1 pt. Playing amazing
defense at half court was Niahm Cote and Jocelyn
Stavros. Stavros and Cote kept the Comets on their toes.
Offensively Cassia Burns assisted on the offense and was able to get off many
shots, unfortunately they just didn't drop. Gina Puccia
drove the ball several times and broke up the tough defense of the
Comets. Under the boards Lily Wyatt assiste in
solid defense by cutting off the lane and Gigi Frisella got into the mix also under the boards and tied up
the ball. Liberty fought hard for possessions and played excellent team
defense. Catanzano had several steals and fast
breaks. McGaffigan had a great effort on
offense, but again the ball wasn't dropping for Liberty. Defensive player
of the game was Shannon Vasas.
The
Comets lost a tough one against the Liberty, 15 -2. During the first
quarter, Emily Langone netted the first two points of
the game and she along her team, held
off the Liberty for a short time with some powerful defense. Emily
Burns gave it her all on defense, posting strong under the net and also
grabbing some rebounds along the way. Allison Couillard,
Carla & Michelle Tenaglia worked super hard
pushing the ball up court, trying to pass off the ball to teammates for a
basket. Even though the Comets didn't score another hoop,
they never gave up and showed great team spirit!
Starzz 24 Lynx 4
The
Starzz took to the court against the Lynx for their
third game of the season and the defensive effort the team put forth was
outstanding. Samantha Mercurio (6 points) had several
steals throughout the game
and
was named defensive player of the game. Holly Covel, Jordyn
Cavicchi and Kate McGlaughlin (2 points) all played great on both sidesof the ball and kept the Lynx from controlling the
boards. The offense was led by Rachel Sessa
and Isabelle Picher, who both scored 6 points apiece.
The
24 to 4 score does not tell the whole story to this game. The Lynx were playing
with only 6 girls for the entire game. With no guards at all Rebecca Lewis did
an outstanding job not only having to play guard but also playing the point for
the first time ever. Though down for most of the game all six players never
stop hustling, although most of them were tired and fatigued. So it may have
been a loss on the record, each and every girl should feel like a winner
because they never once quit. Lynx high scorers were Carolyn Verseckas 2pts, and Amanda Mckinnis
2pts.
Defensive
players of the game Miranda Hulme and Rebecca Lewis
