JUNIOR LEAGUE
Mercury 12 Mystics 10
The Mercury
fought from behind to get their second win of the season against the Mystics . Emily Walker (6 pts.) and Alexis Brincklow (6 pts.) came up with all of the Mercury
points in the second half of the game. The Mystics jumped out to a quick
lead in the first half 8 to 0. Teagan Trant and Danielle Carrig played
some nice defensive in the paint to slow the high flying Mystics scoring
attack. Julie Ozek and felicia Ragucci did a nice
job dribbling the ball up the court. Lauren Riccardi
had some nice shots off of the out-of-bounds play but the ball would just not
fall her way. Ashley Turri continues to improve
her confidence with dribbling the ball up the court and passing to her
teammates. It was a great win for the Mercury girls who seem to be in
close contests every game.
Today we
lost a tough battle against a hungry Mercury team. The first half was solid for
us and we went into the 3rd quarter with a 8-0 lead thanks to 4 points by Allie
Bourassa in the 1st and Sam Alman and Marissa Doherty
with 2 each in the 2nd. The Mercury came out roaring after half time and scored
9 points in the 3rd quarter to take a 9-8 lead. The 4th quarter was much
better for the Mystics but we came up alittle
short in the end. These girls are tough and they get cranky when they lose
because they want to be the best. We will bounce right back and practice
hard to improve this week to get ready for the Undefeated Liberty.
Big game, We will be ready!!!
lynx 18 comets 4
A tightly contested game through out,the Lynx pulled away at the end of the game 18-4.
The score is really not representative of how close the game really was . Both teams hustled extremely well and worked hard on
defense. Lynx high scorers were Amanda Mckinnis, Rebecca Lewis, and Katie
Garcia with 4pts each and Sarah Larsen, Carolyn Verseckas, and Amanda Ford with
2 pts each. Defensive players of the game were Miranda Hulme, Lauren Crupi,
Emily Woods and Katie Garcia.
Another great effort by the
Comets today. Defensively, there were many
steals and rebounds by Emily Burns & Emily Langone.
Defensive player of the game, Carla Tenaglia shined
on the court with strong passes and shots on net. Olivia Powers
was also tough on "D" with some deflections
and rebounds. Allison Couillard grabbed
several loose balls that got away from the Lynx. Caitin
Panessiti did a great job setting picks and Michaela Svendsen made some good bounce passes. Julia Noone hung in there playing tough defense and Emily Milne
had some good blocks. Michelle Tenaglia scored
all four points for the Comets and played solid defense throughout.
LIBERTY 14 ROCKERS 4
The Liberty played against a tough defense from the
Rockers. Liberty played amazing defense and was able to come away with a
win of 14 to 4. Offensively five of the Liberty team was able to
contribute to the offense: Gina Puccia with an
amazing shot for 2 pts, Victoria Mirabito 4 pts,
Paige McGaffigan 2 pts, Sara Catanzano
4 pts and Lily Wyatt 2 pts. Everyone contributed on defense and the execution of the passes to the open man were near perfection
in this game. Catanzano found Lisa Devito in the low corner every play and Devito
attempted multiple shots, but the ball wasn't sinking for her today. Devito was ready in her position and didn't hesitate to
take the shot. Shannon Vasas playing a
different position than usual did a great job in bringing up the ball with her
teammates, Puccia and Jocelyn Stavros. McGaffigan and Niamh Cote were
great creating the first line of defense. Gigi Frisella got into the mix by defending her low post
position and stopping multiple plays. Cassia Burns also contributed to
our defense and was able to hold off the Rockers too. Defensive player of
the game is Sara Catanzano. Great team effort
Liberty, keep it up!

INTERMEDIATE LEAGUE
TERRIERS
23 CARDINALS 20
The Terriers and Cardinals battled it out for sole possession
of second place and it was the game of the week. Both teams play
incredible defense so everyone knew any baskets would have to be earned.
The Terriers D was led by Michelle Creedon under the
boards and cutting off Cardinal attempts at full court
passes. Melanie Fleury was the other defensive
player keeping Cardinals from getting in the key and keeping the Cardinals to
outside shots. The Cardinals were able to score 8 points in the first
quarter, but the Terriers played defense with a capital D and a BIG fence
and kept the Cardinals to only 4 points in each of the remaining
three quarters. Responsible for numerous turnovers were Emily Duquette, Amanda Brown, and Marissa Conlin.
Ruling the boards for the Terriers in the 2nd and 4th quarters was Shannon
Smith. Offensively the Terriers spread the ball around. Seven players
scored out of the nine on the bench and every Terrier put up some shots.
Amanda Brown led the way with 8 points, hitting two of those from the foul
line. Shannon Smith followed up with six points. Marissa Conlin, Meagan Timmins, Emily Duquette,
Meredith Cahill pitched in with two points each and Erin
Walsh sunk a foul shot. It was a nail biter to the end and kudos to
both teams for a great game!

pts.) Toni Joy (2 pts.) and Arianna Calouro

and was leading. Loren Sullivan, Ashley Colbert, Meghan Braciska,
and Nicole Petherbridge were sinking their shots,
while June Garcia and Kacie Ellegood
worked the defense. It was an excellent effort by both teams, but the Jayhawks
took home the win. High scorer was Loren Sullivan with 8 points. Defensive player of the game was Meghan Braciska.
Scoring for the Falcons were Marissa Maciel (4 pts.) and Brittney Fletcher (2 pts.)

played game right to the end. The Huskies started out fast scoring, thanks to

dominated the rebounding and scoring in the 2nd quarter, along with
two great baskets by Marina Russo and Dimple Gandhi put in an incredible shot ! Samantha Parker and Stephanie Mchatton

Finneral (2) and Amanda Lane (2) each played very
well hitting some big baskets a key point in the game. Molly Harrington and Chelsea Grant played
well controlling the ball and setting up the offense. Samantha Teague and Jessica Lehman were
strong under the basket grabbing several rebounds. Mary Crowe was the defensive player of the
game. The Cougars got off to a good
start in this game but couldn't get the ball to go down in the second half.
5th
GRADE TRAVEL
The Tewksbury
girl’s 5th grade travel team dropped their second game in a row this
weekend. Coming off a huge victory against Wilmington has not sparked the
team’s offense and they are struggling. The defense, however, has
improved and the girls are playing tough basketball. This week the Redmen battled a very talented Westford team.
Tewksbury came up nearly empty handed in the first half leaving them with an
18-3 uphill climb. Scoring for the Redmen were
Emily Sessa, Samantha Mercurio,
Adrianna Favreau, Sara Catanzano, Julia Kelly, and
Francesca Cocca. The Redmen had their chances
to score but for every bucket they missed Westford made one and this was a
lopsided defeat at 38-11. This score was not indicative of how hard the
girls played and each Redmen wore a badge made up of
floor burns and bruises earned from their tough defensive effort and the amount
of times they dove to the floor for a loose
ball. Leading the defense and boards were Katie Garcia, Victoria Mirabito, Paige McGaffigan,
Marissa Doherty, and Samantha Surowiec. Catanzano and Favreau each pulled very difficult
assignments on defense as the Westford front court had size and mobility.
Tewksbury has 2 games this week and they hope to get back on a winning track.
