The Suns suffered their second one-point loss of the season to the Blazers 28 to 27. Down by seven entering the fourth quarter, they fought their way back to tie the game with under two minutes to play. They had the ball on an inbound attempt with five seconds to go down by one. Got the ball into Madison Stovesand, who got the shot off, but it was a little bit too long. Emma Nowell and Darya Mehrabani did a good job of setting picks to get girls open shots. Their scoring came from Kati Polimeno 11, Kiley Kennedy 10, Jennie Lester, Madison and Alyssandra Ragusa with 2 each.
Eagles: 20 vs. Jayhawks: 33
Week 3 had the Eagles taking on the Jayhawks. The Eagles were shorthanded for this contest (7 players available) and battled to keep this game close for the first 3 quarters. The Jayhawks pulled away in the last quarter and beat the Eagles 33-20.
Whitney Gigante led the Eagles in scoring with 9 points. Also contributing to the scoring was Dakota Malizia (7 points), Paige Crowley (2 points) and Anya Cranston (2 points). Chloe Burns, Aislin Davis and Autumn Gallant contributed with strong rebounding and defensive play while logging extra playing time due to the reduced numbers for this game!
Wolverines: 25 vs. Badgers: 11
The Wolverines were ready to earn their first “DUB” this week after two tough losses. This game we were suiting up with only seven players, as two players had travel games, and two others had commitments. Our starting five of Emily Picher, Morgan Crowley, Alex Civitarese, Emma Lanziero, and Tia Smith were prepared. They were a solid defensive unit lead by Alex, who had numerous blocked shots, key rebounds in the paint, and a few jump balls. On the offensive side of the ball, Emily was shooting wonderfully scoring 7 points in the first quarter, while Tia added a key outside shot to get the team in a comfortable lead. For quarter two Makayla Stovesand and Molly MacDonald. joined Morgan, Emily, and Alex to continue pressuring the Badgers team. Makayla had a key outside jump shot nearing the end of the first half that gave us a comfortable 11-2 lead. The team came out strong in the second half with Tia Smith adding another 4 points in quarter 3, but Alex Civitarese earned her nickname of Defense Queen with her continued pressure under the net. She had numerous blocks, rebounds, and kept the Badgers out of the paint the entire time she was in the game. She also had some great shots offensively that just didn’t fall. Molly too had some great steals and added to our scoring in the fourth quarter. Emma Lanziero was pivotal with rebounds, helping on the inbound plays, and continued pressure on the Badgers centers. To round out the Wolverine scoring Tia Smith added another 7 points, Makyla Stovesand went one for two at the line, and again Molly added a key basket that secured the team’s first win. The girls shined together and are excited to be back at this coming Saturday. Hopeful our entire squad will be there to go get it.
