Wolverines Hold on For a Win in Overtime

The Wolverines faced a challenge this week vs. the well-matched Badgers, both teams 1-1 at tip off.  The Wolverines came out to an early lead fueled offensively by Jane Garabedian and Paige Insogna.  Defensively, Kiara Decaro showed a phenomenal 6 steals! in the first quarter to keep the badgers from finding any sort of offensive momentum.  After being held to 2 points into the 4th, the Badgers went on an offensive run that tied up the game 8 all just before the buzzer.  In overtime, Erin Langone scored two early to give the Wolverines a decisive advantage. While the badgers fought back, andput one more on the board, they could not find their way to the hoop again. Wolverines 12 Badgers 10

Badgers- 10

Wolverines-12

On Saturday Dec. 14th the TGBL Intermediate League Badgers dropped an overtime thriller, 10-12, to the Wolverines. The Badgers jumped out to an early lead thanks to a bucket by Cordelia Zwirek. But found themselves trailing by 6 in the 4th quarter. The Badgers didn't quit though. They tied the game thanks to 4 pts. Makenna Nelson played the entire game and hauled in many key rebounds, while Cassie Berry chipped in with four points and some outstanding ball handling.  Paige Rattey played solid on defense, with Jilly Boudreau, and Ryan Walker chipping in with four points each.  Sophia Cappiello led all scorers with ten points.

Senior League:

Jazz- 26

Sonics- 15

Team Jazz extended their winning streak to start the season to 3 in a row with another hard fought victory, 26 - 15 over the Suns on Saturday. Undermanned, undersized, and playing with only seven girls, the Jazz put on a defensive gem of an effort. They did a tremendous job of creating turnovers at half-court and not allowing the Suns to get their offense set. The job defensively put forth by Morgan Crowley, Kimsun Nguyen and Aislin Davis was nothing short of awesome. Emma Ryan was the Jazz's rebounding standout of the game. All of them did a good job of moving the ball around on offense to try and get the best possible shot off. Their scoring came from: Emma 8, Aislin and Makayla Stovesand with 5 each, Charlotte Morris 4, Kimsun and Madison Paulding with 2 each.

Suns: 15 Jazz: 26

The Jazz handed the Suns their 2nd loss of the season.  The Suns played some good defense throughout the game.  Offensively the Suns had some great looking shot attempts and break a way layups but the majority of the time the ball would not fall through the basket. The Suns could not overcome the Jazz offense and superb pressure defense.  Suns will look to back to the win column, this Saturday, when they face the Sonics for the 1st time this season.

Suns, Box Score:  Mackenzie Hickey (5 pts.), Erin Costello (4 pts.), Chelsea Keefe (3 pts.), Reese Maniscalco (2 pts.) and Ella MacAllister (1 pt.)
