Junior League Games
Although they came up short on the scoreboard, the Storm played one of their best games of the season. Bianca Olu continued to control the offensive and defensive boards and blocked several shots. Olivia Jensen really stepped up her D and was a pest all game making steals and disrupting the Mercury offense. Delaney Salois hustled hard on both ends of the court grabbing multiple offensive rebounds and played super tough defense. Although outsized, Caroline Schnee protected the paint and battled on the boards against the much taller Mercury front court. And as she’s done all season, Lyla Costello set the tone and made things happen with her scrappy & high energy play. Another great game for the Storm!
Suns: 29 Sonics: 9
The under ladied Suns faced the fully ladied Sonics, and what a win the Suns had! The Suns had 6 on hand for this game.
What an outstanding offensive and defensive game these ladies put on. On the defensive end…you saw Reese Maniscalco stealing the ball like crazy, I lost track of how many steals she actually had! You also had Skylar Auth, Juliana Leffler. Haleigh Doiron, Emily Erickson and Ella MacAllister coming up with key steals and rebounds. For the offense…the Suns were on fire! The scoring was blanketed across the board, where 5 out of the 6 girls scored.
The Suns show never to under or overestimate an opponent, just go in there and play smart…they did just that! The Suns will look to keep their wins going when the face the Blazers next Saturday, 1/25.
Suns Box Score: Skylar Auth (9 pts.), Juliana Leffler and Ella MacAllister (both with 6 pts. each), Emily Erickson and Reese Maniscalco (both with 4 pts. each).Jazz 28 vs Sonics: 23
Game summaries from Week 8. 1/25/2020
Great day for the Storm as they picked up their first win of the season against a strong Comets team. Contributions were needed from all players to pull out this hard fought team victory. Key performances included Sophia Petropoulos who knocked down big shots late in the 4th quarter to force overtime and netted the game winner in the extra period. Rae Chiesa was an absolute monster on defense snagging at least 20 steals. Delaney Salois was super aggressive on the boards wrestling down tons of offensive and defensive rebounds. Olivia Jensen continued to step up her defense getting multiple steals, tie-ups and stops. As she’s done all season, Cadence King set great picks to free up teammates and did the all the little things to help her team win. Fantastic game by all Storm players. Great team win!
The Storm played their best defense of the season in this nail biter of a game and came up just short of picking up back-to-back wins in game 2. Lyla Costello’s defense was crazy intense as she harassed the opposition all game. Caroline Schnee got it done on both ends of the court running the point against a tough Sparks defense and protecting the paint on defense. Bianca Olu fought hard on the boards and added a few more blocks to her season total. Defensive pit bull Brooke Dykeman was relentless and helped shut down a very good Sparks offense. Win or lose, the Storm always play hard, stick together and give it everything they got. Another great game!
Senior League updates
The Jazz got a hard-earned, drown-to-the-wire victory on Saturday in defeating the Sonics 24 -23. This now runs their record to 7 - 2 and solidifies first place in the league. All three games that they have had with the Sonics this season has been decided by 2 points or less. The defensive trio effort of Aislin Davis, Morgan Crowley, and Kimsun Nguyen caused numerous turnovers leading to several layups at the other end for the Jazz. Dakota Malizia, Emma Ryan, Rebecca Boudreau, Charlotte Morris and Madison Paulding did a great great of rebounding for the Jazz on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court. Their scoring came from: Kimsun 9, with 5 of those points coming in the 4th quarter and those being all of the points that the Jazz scored in the 4th quarter, Kristina Smith 5, Makayla Stovesand 3 and Paige Crowley with 3 each, Dakota and Aislin with 2 each.
Suns: 34 Blazers: 9
The Suns continue their winning ways with a 25-point victory over the Blazers. There were 9 ladies on hand for this game. The Suns came out with some strong pressure and zone defense that the Blazer could not overcome. You saw some great rebounding done by all.
For the Suns offense you saw some great passing and moving the ball around for the open shots. It was another outstanding job done by all Suns players and will look to keep the wins going when they face the 1st place Jazz for the final regular season game, next Saturday, 2/8/2020.
Suns Box Score: Ella MacAllister and Makenzie Hickey (8 pts. each), Skylar Auth (6 pts.), Chelsea Keefe (5 pts.), Haleigh Doiron (3 pts.) and Emily Erickson and Stephanie MacKeen (2 pts. each).
