What it is: TGBL Offers a competitive travel program for grades 5 through 8. This program participates in the River Valley League (RVL). Towns participating in RVL include most of the local towns (Andover, Billerica, Haverhill) as well as some Southern NH towns (Salem, Nashua, Pelham) and some North Shore towns (Beverly, Marblehead). There are typically 30+ towns participating.
Where and When: TGBL holds tryouts for travel teams in the April timeframe, and teams are selected typically before June 1st. The RVL season runs from late November or early December through early or mid-March. During the RVL off-season, travel teams may practice occasionally, and potentially participate in a Summer League or some weekend tournaments. This is at the discretion of the team travel coach. During the season, travel teams will have 2 – 90minutes practices per week. Practice nights and locations will change weekly, but all will be held at a Tewksbury School gym. There is typically 1 game per week on Saturday or Sunday afternoon, however, some weeks a team may have 2 games, or no games, depending on how the schedule works out. There are 14-18 games per season.
What to Wear: Uniforms will need to be purchased upon registration. The uniforms are the players to keep. Players can purchase new/updated uniforms each year, or as needed. Uniforms must be worn for all games. Practice attire is at the players discretion, reversible jersey's are highly recommended. Athletic sneakers with flat soles, and shorts or sweatpants are also recommended for practices.
Important Reminders: Players should bring plenty of water to have throughout the practice and/or game. Players should bring a basketball to all practices, coaches will have a limited number to lend if a player forgets or does not have a ball.
Winter weather: When snow is in the forecast, check in with your coach as we will pass on cancellations through the coaches.
